Always point firearm in a safe direction
Never have loaded firearm in your car, home, camp
Identify your target and what is behind it
Never fire at a hard surface or water
Store firearms and ammunitions separately
No alcohol or drugs while handling firearms
Do not climb fences or obstacles with loaded firearm
Under the Firearms Act which took effect in July 1997, many firearm owners will not qualify for a licence as they do not currently have a sufficient "reason or need" to possess a firearm. Membership of an approved hunting club and participation in two approved club "events" per year will provide a sufficient reason.
